“A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.”

– Gandhi

I was talking to a friend of mine a couple of years ago about my position within a local non-profit foundation. He asked me why I loved “fighting” everyday to make other people’s lives easier. I told him that I did not have a choice…I could not ignore the voice inside saying that a better world is possible. My friend looked at me and said, “You know what, you are an activist.” Since that conversation, I have thought of myself as just that…an activist. My problem is that I can not just be an activist for equal and enriching education. I am an activist against any injustice. Whether it is the destruction of the planet, the violation of human rights, the cover up of information by a corporation due to stocks/money or even someone’s voice not being heard because of socio-economic status; I feel I am my brother’s keeper. And so, this is how this blog was born. I will be writing about controversial issues, “touchy subjects” and things that may make you uncomfortable but know that I write out of education and awareness, not out of offense. If you have something to say, please write to me. I think that the more open discussion we have as a human race, the better off we will be.

Something to read that touched me and I hope it touches you. (Thanks Ashley!) VimalaThakar
